Investigators have confirmed a Queensland man was killed when his four-wheel-drive crashed into a truck, about 10km out of Narrabri.
Emergency services rushed to help the man, but he died at the scene.
The collision occurred at about 1.30am and saw the highway blocked for much for the day, between Narrabri and Moree.

Lengthy diversions were in place for much of the day, but about 3pm, one lane of the highway reopened at the crash site, under stop/slow traffic controls.
Oxley detectives and forensic police combed the road to piece together what might have caused the crash, before a lengthy clean-up operation could begin.
Police said a 46-year-old truck driver, who was behind the wheel of the refrigerated truck, suffered arm and chest injuries in the collision.
He was treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to Narrabri hospital for further treatment.
Investigators have appealed for any witnesses to the crash, or anyone with dashcam footage to contact Oxley police.
The cause is still under investigation but a report will now be prepared for the coroner.
