Following the federal government’s Defence Export Strategy announcement on Monday, January 29, Member for Cowper Luke Hartsuyker visited Bale Defence Industries in Port Macquarie to get a first hand account at what the announcement will mean for local businesses. “Defence companies such as Bale Defence Industries have already achieved great export success through the design and manufacturing of military equipment and defence related products,” Mr Hartsuyker said. “However, we want to do more to support Australian companies, including companies on the Mid North Coast, to access even more opportunities through the defence export market. “Exports will continue to unlock the full potential of Australian defence industry to grow, innovate and support Defence’s future needs and this will provide our defence industry in Australia with greater certainty for generations to come.” General manager of Bale Defence Industries, Link Bale said that government’s announcement was great news for the future of his company in Port Macquarie. “The defence strategy that was announced this week has the potential to be hugely beneficial to our company and we are really getting behind it to support it further because overseas is where our future is,” Mr Bale said. “Our company focuses on research and the rapid development of vehicles, boats and specialist counter terrorism capabilities for the Australian Defence Force but we have expanded into supplying nations overseas and this new strategy can only help.” Mr Bale also said the company was at the cutting edge of technology employing tradespeople with world class skills. “The skill level of the guys we employ is fantastic, our boiler makers and machinists could go anywhere in the world and get very highly skilled jobs so we know we are producing some of the best products right here.”
