A BODY has been found inside a car after it was discovered crashed and engulfed in flames in a creek north of Tamworth.

Emergency services were called to reports a single car had crashed off North Star Road, about 30km outside Warialda, just after 4pm on Tuesday.
Police officers and firefighters rushed to the scene and found a red Mitsubishi sedan "well alight" in a creek.
First responders sadly located a body inside the sedan and the person is yet to be formally identified.
New England police set up a crime scene and are investigating circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.

Police have urged any witnesses to come forward by contacting Inverell Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Officers are interested in hearing from travellers who may have dashcam footage from the areas of the Gwydir Highway, Yetman Road and North Star Road near Warialda.
Police established a crime scene and commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
