"Attending domestic violence incidents would be the bread and butter of general duties police," Tamworth's union (PANSW) chair Brian Pegus told the Leader.
"It's a significant drawdown on resources every night, every shift."
The local PANSW has been calling for eight more officers to be posted to the Oxley command to ease pressure on the thin blue line.
Although combatting the property crime plague is the immediate priority, Mr Pegus hopes there will be enough numbers for two dedicated cops to boost the force's domestic violence response and follow-up.
"Hopefully what this outcome would be is, some domestic violence officers who would go out and actually respond to the domestic violence incidents as well," he said.

He said priorities will have to be discussed depending on any allocation the Oxley Police District might get, in a state-wide announcement to be made later this year.
"If we don't get the eight we will have to re-assess where we go and what our response will be," Mr Pegus said.
"Obviously we are not alone in looking for extra resources and there is only so much to go around."
The union has been meeting with top cops in the western region to discuss concerns.
NSW Police determines the allocation of new officers based on resource requirements and how best to prevent, disrupt and respond to emerging crime issues. Community programs will also continue.
Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson told the Leader previously that he wants the Oxley Police District to be at the front of the queue later this year when the allocation is determined.
