POLICE are searching for the driver of a car that fled the scene after hitting a cyclist out riding in Inverell on Monday morning.

Officers said the man was riding his bike along the Ashford Road about 11am when he was hit by a tray back utility.
The white-coloured ute failed to stop and help the cyclist, who fell onto the roadway, near the intersection of Killean Street.
Police said the ute was last seen heading north along the Ashford Road and are appealing for anyone who might have witnessed the collision or who might have seen the tray back ute to come forward.

Ambulance paramedics were called to treat the 65-year-old cyclist at 11.05am, a spokesperson confirmed.
Paramedics said the patient was conscious and breathing on arrival and suffered minor injuries including bruising and abrasions.
He was assessed at the scene but was not taken to hospital.
Anyone with information on the ute or the identity of the driver is urged to contact Inverell police on 6722 0599.
Officers are also appealing for anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.
