A pre-tender briefing was held at the courts on Tuesday as Tamworth Regional Council (TRC) searches for specialist contractors to build new tennis courts and an off-street carpark.
The mammoth project will see the club go from 11 championship-grade courts to 13 alongside change rooms, a pro-shop and a brand-spanking new clubhouse with what's expected to be one of the better beer gardens in East Tamworth.
Wests Entertainment Group will handle the clubhouse build, and chief executive Rod Laing said the organisation is fine-tuning the design with a Newcastle architect.
"My feeling with the entire project is that given it will be a club with no gaming machines, for that business to really succeed it needs a very unique outdoor areas - that's the key to the renovation success," he said.
The change rooms, pro-shop and meeting rooms will be a priority in the hope the tennis courts will be upgraded around the same time.

Interest from potential tenderers for the tennis court and carpark build has been encouraging, a TRC spokesman said.
"Council often holds pre-tender meetings to allow for potential tenderers to ask questions about the project and for council to raise any unique aspects of the project for tenderers to consider," he said.
"When complete, the enhancement of the centre will provide a family-friendly tennis venue of regional and state significance, which will allow Tamworth to host major tennis tournaments as well as providing wonderful facilities for local coaching and recreational use."
Mr Laing said he expects the club to be the tennis hub of the north-west when it's completed.
"Initially when we had the project on our own, we discussed just doing the tennis courts and the clubhouse later, but we're in a unique position with state and federal grants to get a lot more done," he said.
"We really think the residents of East, when it's all said and done, will enjoy the facilities there regardless of whether they are a social tennis player or just want to enjoy the hospitality venue."
Construction is scheduled to start around March next year with a mid-year completion date.
