The 52-year-old woman and 17-year-old boy were woken by the intruder in their Bryan Street home, just after 11pm on Wednesday.
The woman told police she woke to find the man in her bedroom.

Police were alerted and set up a crime scene, and Operation Southbreak - the Oxley police-led property crime blitz - conducted several patrols for the offender.
Oxley Detective Acting Inspector Jason Darcy said investigators had spent Thursday morning searching for witnesses.
"We have Operation Southbreak officers canvassing the area looking for CCTV and anyone with dashcam footage who might have been in the area," he said.
"We're appealing for anyone that has information on the offender to come forward, or who saw a male acting suspiciously in the Bryan Street area about 11pm."
The intruder is described as being of thin build, and was last seen wearing a black jumper and black tracksuit pants, with his face covered.
"Again, we make a public appeal for Tamworth locals to remain vigilant, lock their homes and cars and windows, secure all their doors and personal items and put their CCTV cameras on or alarm systems every night or when they leave their premises," Detective Darcy said.
"We have Operation Southbreak police working around the clock, at all hours to curb property crime but if anyone sees something suspicious, or anyone out in the streets at odd hours, then please call police and we can check it out.
"If you call police, we can make a patrol."
Anyone with information is urged to call Tamworth police on 6768 2999.
