The shiny new $5.4 million Fire and Rescue NSW Station 448 was opened in July, replacing the half-century old West Tamworth station.
Superintendent Tom Cooper said Saturday's open day was the first chance for most to have a look inside.
Hundreds did - he estimated crowd of between 700 and 800 took the opportunity, one of the biggest event he's seen for the fire service.
"There were a lot more people than we were expecting but then again I guess it was expected since it was our first open day that we've had here," he said.
"We couldn't have it last year because of COVID and we couldn't have public in at the opening of the station so I guess everybody wanted to see what was behind the red doors and hopefully we didn't disappoint them."
Far from it: Tamworth has shown great pride in the new station he said.
The service does open days close to the start of winter with an eye to encouraging families to improve their home fire safety plan.

The service is hoping parents took the opportunity to get their home fire safety checked.
"It'll probably take us a couple of weeks to get through all those [applications] because we had so many people here today," Superintendent Cooper said.
NSW police and the Rural Fire Brigade also attended the day to support their fellow emergency services.
