Growth mindset resilience intervention for teenagers (or GRIT) will be run for two different cohorts of young people in Tamworth aged 12-14 and 15-17 in term 3 and 4.
The 10-week program will see the youth come in for 2.5 hours a week to work on fitness, food, mood, understanding triggers and support networks, and to create a safe environment at the PCYC for them to visit in the future, if needed.
Senior Constable Andrena Sandison is a youth case manager with the PCYC, and said the program would be "invaluable" for local young people.
"The young people that I work with usually are disengaged from school and have a lot of risk factors that can stem from their family life right into a lack of role models," Ms Sandison said.
"We get referrals from various agencies and you do find that a lot of the young people we work with, their family situations and things like that can lead into mental health issues if it's not pre-determined."

Tamworth PCYC club manager Debby Herdegan said mental health issues ramped up within the youth of the region during COVID-19.
"The fact that during COVID we were closed down so there's a lot of youth that we would've been helping that we couldn't help during that time," Ms Herdegan said.
"We're dealing with lots of different youth."
PCYC major submissions manager Samantha Sidwell said the program would be rolled out properly in 2022.
It's supported by the Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation, which has pitched in $125,000 to run the program in numerous regional towns.
Graham Batten from the foundation said about $20-30,000 of this would be going to the Tamworth club.
