A LIONESS has given birth to Lions, with the local Lioness Club completing its name change on the weekend at a special event.

Around two years ago, club president Mary Allen was notified that after years of discussion, her club would be required to change its title as part of a worldwide push from the organisation to encourage equal rights and opportunities.
They were given the option to join another group or rebrand themselves, so Ms Allen and her team of volunteers decided to become a Lions Club.
So on Sunday, at a luncheon hosted at West Tamworth League Club, the Lions Club of Tamworth City was officially launched.
Ms Allen was pleased to announce that all 28 of her members have stayed as part of the group.
The group will continue to perform their numerous charitably activities around town, which will come as a relief to many locals.

The ladies complete tasks such as putting on barbecues, catering for wakes and birthdays for elderly residents in aged care and creating hampers.
Although their most significant project is the wig library, which allows cancer patients to come in and select wigs for a nominal cost.
Being able to continue those activities was crucial in the group's decision making to become a Lions Club, according to Ms Allen.
"Why did we become a Lioness Club? Because we want to serve our community," she said.
"So we still want to do that and we wanted to keep our group of ladies that are together now and the things we do are quite family and lady orientated."
