Leon Prince is behind bars on three weapon and stolen goods-related offences after a car stop on Scott Road this week.
The 21-year-old appeared via video link in Tamworth Local Court from the cells of Tamworth Police Station for his bail determination.
A solicitor from the Aboriginal Legal Service (ALS) lodged an application for release, but it was opposed by the police prosecution.

The bail bid was ultimately rejected by magistrate Joy Boulos who ordered him into custody.
Prince did not enter pleas to the allegations of having a knife in a public place; possessing or using a prohibited weapon without a permit; and suspected stolen goods in custody.
The case will return to court this month.
Police claim they were out patrolling for Operation Southbreak and responded to reports of a prowler in Carthage Street just after 5am on March 31.
Shortly after, police tracked a car to Scott Road where it was intercepted about 5.20am.
Prince was arrested at the scene and police allege he had a knife, a set of knuckledusters and suspected stolen goods in the car.
He was arrested and taken to Tamworth Police Station where he was charged with the three offences.
He's been in custody since.
Operation Southbreak has seen extra police deployed across Tamworth in a bid to try and combat a wave of property crime.
