AN ELDERLY man has died after a motorbike accident with a group of friends on Wednesday.

About 11.45am, police were called to the accident on Platfrom Road at Kellys Plains, about 12km south of Armidale after reports of a crash.
The 78-year-old was riding near the Heathersleigh Road turn off when the accident occurred.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked from Tamworth, and paramedics and police rushed to the scene.

The injured man was treated at the scene and taken by ambulance but unfortunately died en route to hospital, police confirmed.
New England Inspector Matt Hemsworth said investigations into the incident are continuing.
"The matter is being investigated by New England police who are preparing a report for the coroner and exploring a number of possibilities for the cause of death including a possible medical episode," he said.
"There was no collision."
Police said the man was riding with a group of fellow motorcycle enthusiasts who contacted Triple Zero after his bike left Platform Road near Kellys Plains railway crossing.
A report will now be prepared for the coroner.
