Tamworth Regional Council (TRC) confirmed on Thursday parthenium weed had been discovered growing at a property in Tamworth and at another property in Bendemeer earlier this month.
Council's senior weeds officer Mal Stein said people should not attempt to remove or control the weed themselves if it is found, as it can be dangerous.

"Parthenium weed can be very invasive and can create seed banks that last 15 years," he said.
TRC said parthenium can trigger health issues for livestock and people, and taint milk and meat from animals.
Mr Stein said landholders should check sheds, silos and feeding stations regularly, and keep an eye on areas where livestock are grain-fed and along roadsides.
It is believed the two-hectare contamination at a Tamworth property was caused by stock feed brought in from Queensland.
TRC said people who spot a potential parthenium weed should contact council's weed officers on 6767 5555 or the NSW Biosecurity Helpline at 1800 680 244.
Tamworth council confirmed there are no established infestations of the weed in the local area.
