It's alleged the New England Police District senior constable assaulted a 14-year-old boy in Inverell two days after Christmas.
Police will allege the assault occurred during an arrest in Evans Street on December 27.
The incident was referred to senior police and an investigation was launched by the Professional Standards Command.
After investigations, the officer was charged in late August and issued a notice to face court.
After charges were laid, police said the officer was on leave and his duty status under review by NSW Police.
