David George Thompson appeared via video link in Tamworth Local Court from prison, where he is being held on a charge of robbery armed with an offensive weapon.
The court was told a charge certificate - confirming the allegation against Thompson - had been filed electronically with the court.
"Thereafter, I am instructed to enter a plea of guilty," Legal Aid solicitor Wendy McAuliffe said.
Magistrate Julie Soars committed Thompson to the district court to formally enter his plea at an arraignment in late May. He'll then be sentenced at a later date.

"Bail not applied for, refused today," Ms Soars told Thompson.
"Thank you, thank you," he replied.
The 42-year-old has been in custody since his arrest minutes after the January 13 hold-up.
He robbed the Caltex service station off Marius Street in Tamworth shortly before 3.30am, after threatening the employee behind the counter with a knife.
The hold-up was captured on CCTV as Thompson fled with stolen goods.
He was arrested shortly after, by police who found him near the Gipps Street fields after crossing the Bicentennial Park footbridge.
ATM robbery case in court
Meanwhile, the case against another Tamworth man charged with using a machete to rob a man using an ATM has been adjourned.
Jaydan Robert Follington, who is being held in custody in Tamworth Correctional Centre, appeared in Tamworth court via video link and waved to family.
The Aboriginal Legal Service said it hadn't received a brief of evidence in the case, but the court heard it was en route.
"I'm informed by the DPP it has been served and it's compliant with the EAGP [Early Appropriate Guilty Pleas system]," Sergeant Cynthia Donovan told the court.
Ms Soars adjourned the case for six weeks to allow the defence to review the evidence before Follington returns to court in June.
He made no application for bail and it was formally refused.
The 18-year-old faces a maximum of 25 years if found guilty of robbery armed with a dangerous weapon, and being armed with intent.
He's accused of robbing a man using an ATM at the Robert Street Shopping Complex on February 12.
The 35-year-old victim was confronted from behind in the robbery at 3.50pm. He wasn't injured but handed over the money, before Follington is accused of fleeing.
Follington was arrested in a police raid on a Central Avenue home on February 15.
