POLICE have found a silver ring during a search of a paddock in Walgett which they believe is connected to a mother's cold case murder.

Roxlyn Bowie, aged 31 at the time, was reported missing in the 1980s. She was last seen at her Walgett home about 6pm on Saturday, June 5, 1982.
A strike force has re-opened the case after new evidence came to light, and following ongoing investigations, detectives and specialist forensic investigators launched a thorough forensic examination, including luminol testing, at a home and a parcel of land in Walgett last month.
During the excavation in a paddock near the home, Strike Force Maluka investigators found a silver ring with the letter 'R' and other items which will undergo further forensic testing.

Robbery and Serious Crime Squad Commander, Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty, is appealing for anyone that recognises the ring or the other items to come forward.
"The support from the community in our pursuit to locate Roxlyn Bowie and piece together her last movements has been very beneficial," he said.
"We're hoping this assistance can continue as we are keen to speak with anyone who has more information about these items.
"In particular, Strike Force Maluka investigators want to hear from those who may have more information about the silver ring with the letter 'R' on it."
Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty said detectives would continue to follow all lines of inquiry until they could provide some answers for Ms Bowie's loved ones.
A coronial inquest in September 2014 found Mrs Bowie had died but the cause of death was undetermined. Her body has never been found.
A $1 million NSW government reward remains on offer for information leading to the location of the body of Roxlyn Bowie or for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for her murder.
Ms Bowie left behind her husband and two children, who were aged almost six and two years old at the time she went missing.
Local police started an investigation into her disappearance before the case was assigned to the Homicide Squad.
Investigations under Strike Force Maluka are continuing, and forensic examinations of items seized are continuing to determine their relevance to the investigation.
