The 45-year-old was released from police custody late on Thursday, facing one charge of reckless wounding after the confrontation earlier that day at the front door of a Brown Street unit.

The 24-year-old victim underwent emergency surgery on Thursday afternoon for the single stab wound to his hand.

He is now recovering, police said.

Police have finished combing two crime scenes: one at the Brown Street unit, and a second at Bunnings, off Barney Street, after the victim ran to the store to raise the alarm.

As part of the 45-year-old’s bail, he must report to police daily, must not approach the victim or any witnesses, and is prohibited from going within 200m of where the incident occurred.

He has been ordered to front Armidale Local Court in early December.

Police said investigations into the incident were continuing.

Meanwhile, a man will be sentenced later this year after admitting to a violent home invasion in Armidale on Christmas Eve last year. 

Matung Marcus Baget appeared via video link in Tamworth District Court for his arraignment.

He pleaded guilty to a charge of special aggravated break-and-enter with wounding after the incident on December 24, 2017.

Baget admitted to breaking into the house in Kennedy Street, knowing the male resident was inside, and then wounding the man.

Detectives maintained Baget armed himself with a machete during a confrontation with a 30-year-old man in the house, who was seriously injured in the struggle.

“There is a dispute on the facts; that dispute is made clear on the facts that are being handed up,” public defender Stuart Bouveng told the court.

Baget made no application for bail and it was formally refused by Judge Jeffery McLennan. He will be sentenced in Armidale District Court in December.
