At only 15, Kathryn has made a name for herself. She has performed at the Tamworth Country Music Festival six years running, and won regional competitions and talent quests. Her first EP “Walk Alone” has been performed in 25 countries.
Now she is auditioning for the Talent Development Project, the NSW Department of Education and the entertainment industry’s program to prepare public school students for a career in music and entertainment.
“That’s all I want!” Kathryn said. “Mainly singing, but I love dancing and acting. I’ve wanted to do world tours since I was really little!”

Kathryn is one of 72 students from the whole state to make it through to a two-day workshop at the Sydney Film School, involving vocals and movement, on July 2 and 3.
Those 72 hopefuls will, over the next few rounds, be narrowed down to ten.
Kathryn, though, is relaxed, and looking forward to meeting new people.
“I don’t like to put too much pressure on myself,” she said; “I’m just there to have fun. I go to competitions to make friends and do what I like doing, which is music. Being competitive gets in the way.
“I’m a year younger than the actual age to get through, so I can’t get into the program itself. They’re looking at alternatives for people who are younger, and they still asked me to go down. I count that as a pretty big achievement!”
Kathryn’s career began at the age of four, when her brother started guitar lessons.
"Like a typical four-year-old,” she said, “I wanted to play too, so my parents bought me a guitar for Christmas, and I started learning when I was four or five. My guitar teacher then got me to start singing when I was eight.”
Kathryn entered her first talent quest, a Glen Innes event for under-18s, when she was nine.
“I was lucky enough to win it,” she said, “and then we went on from there!”
Being onstage gives her a buzz.
“I get nervous before I go on,” she admitted, “and then when I come off I’m the happiest that you’ll ever see me. Every single time I play, it’s just the best feeling to go onstage!"
You can catch Kathryn live at a couple of gigs next month.
She’s performing at Tamworth’s Hats Off to Country music festival from July 6 to 9, and with the nomadic String Family at the Chapel Theatre, Glen Innes, on July 15.
