She looks and talks exactly like a 16 year old Year 11 Glen Innes schoolgirl because that’s what she is, a student at the High School.
But she’s developing a rare skill. A song she’s written and recorded has got her accepted on a Talent Development Course in Sydney.
She wrote Dream Catcher for a radio station which specialises in new Australian music and also submitted it tot he people who run the workshop. It was accepted (have a listen on the Examiner website video – it’s good).
She said: “I wrote and recorded a song called ‘Dream Catcher’ and put it into the ‘tripleJ Unearthed’ competition and I used the song to audition for the Talent Development Project in Sydney, and I’m now doing that in July which is exciting”.
It turns out, though, that she was also nominated for the state drama course at the same time. Which is she choosing, music or drama? She’s plumped for music and the progression towards being a singer/song-writer.
“They’re having workshops to help you develop your skills and it also leads to many opportunities in career paths.”
On how you write a song, she is vague, probably like most song-writers. “I just find a melody in my head and work out some rhythms on the guitar and then try and figure out some words that will match.”
