Emergency services were called to the scene of a car crash on Adam Street in North Tamworth at 2am on Friday.
The car had crashed into a power pole and was "well alight" by the time they arrived at the scene, Oxley police claim.
The blaze completely destroyed the white Subaru Impreza before being extinguished by teams from Fire and Rescue NSW.
Police have appealed for public help tracking down three people they say were seen running from the scene towards Manilla Road.
They allege the wrecked vehicle was stolen from a home on Burilla Street, South Tamworth on Wednesday 15 December 2021.
Police would like to speak to any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage from the area at the time.
Investigations continue.
