A MAN, who allegedly knocked a police officer unconscious, has been granted bail after an incident which occurred on Friday night.
At around 10:45pm on Kable Avenue, the man allegedly approached an off-duty police officer and began to verbally abuse him.
Police will claim the officer was pushed and then punched by the man, before a bystander came to help and was also pushed.
Following inquiries a 19-year-old man was arrested at a property on Calala Lane at around 12:30 on Saturday afternoon.
He initially faced court on Sunday after being charged with assault; assault causing bodily harm; and assaulting a police officer.
He was granted bail on the condition that he demonstrates 'good behaviour', reports to the Tamworth Police Station daily, stays away from witnesses and doesn't consume non-prescription drugs and alcohol.
He will reappear in court on Wednesday. The officer was treated for soreness and bruising to his jaw and neck, as well as a split lip.
