The service is on the lookout for aircraft maintenance engineers, which are often hard to come by, as they are highly skilled and normally in demand.
Chief executive of Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service Northern NSW, Richard Jones, said the position was being advertised publicly so a broad net could be cast.
"It's a pretty limited field in Australia with the [advanced] technology, so we're just trying to set out if there's a pool of people," he said.
"A lot of these engineers are in very high demand because of their superior skill level on these types of machines."
Mr Jones said they were looking for people who were willing to take a short to medium term contract, or supplement permanent team members during peak periods and to cover leave relief.

While the service is quite busy all year round, he said the crews can experience some particularly frantic times during spring and summer.
"Definitely in the warmer months there's more people out and doing stuff and in the holiday periods there's definitely a spike," he said.
"But it's just seemingly getting busier and busier and they're machines, the more you fly them the more you have to fix them.
"So again we're just asking if there's people out there that have the skills that we require and the licence coverage."
Applicants are being sought to fill positions at the bases in Tamworth, Newcastle and Lismore.
