No school assignments. No art classes. No set works of any kind. The art has to flow from the artist's own imagination.
Organiser and Kootingal Lions Club member Lee Rodger said they wanted to crack through a blockage that can halt budding artists later in life.
"We're most specific in stating that we want it to be a product of their own work, not a product of a school exercise or an art workshop," she said.
"What we expect of our adults as well!"
She said it put the kids in an "adult frame", showing them that they do not need to follow someone else's direction.
"An acceptance of their own artworks they create too. Because they're often told that theirs isn't any good," she said.
"At this age, 8 years old or thereabouts, children often start to say, but mine doesn't look like that. They can abandon completely for the rest of their lives.
"It doesn't take much to put a person off doing something creative.
"This is the first time we've done it and I think it's the first in the area."

Five years ago, the Kootingal Lions Club became among the first in the region to hold an art competition, after the end of a Bendemeer competition.
In the years since then, they've gone from strength to strength.
Despite spending 2020 online due to the COVID-19 lockdown, they received applications from across the state, Mrs Rodger said.
The 2021 show is set to open on Friday October 8, with an exhibition at the Chaffey Street hall to remain open until October 10 - assuming COVID-19 restrictions permit them to hold it.
There will be a grand opening on Friday evening 8th October and the exhibition will continue across the weekend from 10 am to 4 pm each day.
Entries close on September 13 and artists can enter online at www.kootyartshow.com
