Joseph Clive Fabre was arrested when police forced entry to a bedroom in a home in Spring Ridge, near Gunnedah, on Wednesday morning after reports gunshots had been fired.
Oxley police were alerted to reports a firearm had been discharged at a home on Darby Road about 12am on Wednesday.
Officers arrived and spoke to the occupant before they arrested 31-year-old Fabre in a bedroom.

While in the room, police noticed a gun and property they suspected to be the proceeds of crime in the room.
Officers then were granted a search warrant to raid the home where they seized three rifles, firearm parts and ammunition.
Inside they allege they seized more than 40 mobile phones and laptops, and a large quantity of power tools - worth tens of thousands of dollars which police believe are stolen goods.
Fabre was taken to Gunnedah Police Station where he was charged.
He appeared in Tamworth Local Court on Thursday on two charges of possessing an unauthorised firearm; not keeping a gun safely; and possessing ammunition without a licence.
Magistrate Julie Soars formally refused bail, after solicitor Rasha Shammas, who appeared as amicus in the matter, made no application for release.
He also faces allegations of domestic intimidation; two counts of domestic violence-related (DV) property damage; and driving while suspended from an unrelated incident last month.
The charges were adjourned, and he did not enter pleas.
Police said investigations into the raid are continuing, and no charges have been laid as a result of the seizure.
"This search warrant unearthed a significant amount of goods that are now the subject of further investigations," Oxley Detective Inspector Jason Darcy said.
"Police suspect the goods are worth tens of thousands of dollars, and depending on their origins, further charges could be laid."
