Brewery Lane now runs behind the original complex location.
Commenced by Joseph Oddy in 1879, it was taken over and developed by local entrepreneur Charles Britten by 1885, going on within 20 years to rival some of the top Sydney breweries.
A setback occurred in 1900 when one of Tamworth's most serious fires occurred within the Brewery, which recovered to undergo considerable expansion from 1903.
By 1914 the Brewery had reached its maximum growth, employing over 100 men and having its own cricket team, then said to be the largest brewery outside of Sydney.
Many locals often stated how lucky Tamworth was to have a main street starting with a Brewery and ending in Paradise!

Local cordial manufacturers Lillymans took over some of the Brewery complex around 1930, with demolition of the main building occurring in 1936.
Recently you may have seen a colourful van displaying the name 'Royal Standard', driving around our streets, the vehicle belonging to Wests Entertainment Group, who are now keeping the original Brewery name alive in brewing their own Royal Standard beer on their premises.
