Tamworth Regional Gallery wins North West Landcare Partnership Award for conservation art education programs in Tamworth

The program is one of many run by Tamworth Regional Gallery in partnership with Tamworth Regional Landcare Association, and just won it an award.

The North West Landcare Partnership Award recognises cultural and environmental programs that educate the public about conservation, local coordinator Penne Fraser said.

"We've been really fortunate to be able to deliver some programs in partnership with the gallery, like the Grassy White Box Woodlands art competition and plain air painting events at the river that bring audiences to Landcare," she said.

"Being able to reach new audiences is incredible for us and the gallery has provided that kind of platform for us to reach people who love the beauty of the landscape."

The local award puts the gallery in the running to win at state level.

Tamworth Regional Council art gallery and museums director Bridget Guthrie said the award is really special to the gallery.

"It demonstrates our commitment to the environment but also that wonderful opportunity to work in partnership," she said.

The two groups have run a number of programs with the help of gallery education officer Emma Stilts, including exhibitions at the Ray Walsh House foyer, projections on Ray Walsh House, workshops, ecodyeing and plain air painting by the river.

The award was presented to the gallery on Thursday.
