Tamworth High School students deliver huge haul of groceries to Salvation Army for families at Christmas

Tamworth High School kids have wrapped up their "stuff the bus" appeal, and delivered a load of goodies to the Salvation Army.

"I just hope the people are really happy," student Zoe Darlington said.

The Student Representative Council and a team of students spent a week raising money and rallying food donations at Tamworth High.

They hit the shops with close to $300 in their pockets, and budgeted to walk out with a huge haul packed with goodies like chips, baked beans, spaghetti, tuna, crackers and pasta.

"It's harder than it looks because even when you try and buy cheap things, it adds up at the end," Zoe said.

"Christmas is special with your family and food costs a lot of money even for people that have it, and if you don't have food then it's not really going to be special."

Salvation Army Captain Harriet Farquhar said "thank you" to all involved.

"Every new generation that comes through is so full of light and so full of energy ... and I think it gives us hope for the future," she said.

"I love the fact kids figured out what they wanted to buy, learnt to budget, and these are the skills that we want people to learn."
