The council's acting director of compliance Ross Briggs said he was expecting an influx of people taking part in the event.
"If you ring the pound, make a booking, your first two animals will be free and after that it's $10," Mr Briggs said.
"Given we weren't able to hold one earlier in the year, I do expect this one to be very popular, but there is still room.
"We have had to do things a bit differently this time around, normally the event is a free,walk-up event but because of COVID-19 it's at a different location and you have to make a booking."
The service is available to all Tamworth region residents, who provide proof of their address and valid pension and health care card holders will eligible for the council's $15 vaccination deal.
"We have had quite a few bookings already, which is good to see," Mr Briggs said.
"It's very pertinent to have your dog microchipped so that if they do get lost they can be reunited with you and not rehomed to someone else, which is the risk you run if you don't get your pet microchipped.
"If you don't get your animal vaccinated that's probably just as bad because your animal could die from a simple disease that can be stopped through vaccinations."
Mr Briggs said the council's team had partnered with the Tamworth RSPCA and Tafe New England veterinary students to make the event happen.
"From disease control, to ensuring your animal is returned to you if it gets lost and to ensuring you don't end up with any unwanted litters, there are lot of positives from these kinds of events," he said.
"If anyone out there is interested, I urge them to call the pound on 6762 6329 to reserve a spot."
