2020 federal budget: NDIS funding boost for disability service provider

The funding injection was one of a few key wins for the disability sector outlined in the 2020-21 Federal Budget on Tuesday evening.

Federal treasurer Josh Frydenberg handed down the Budget, which serves as a recovery plan to rebuild the economy, create jobs and secure the nation's future.

The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission will also receive an additional $92.9 million over the next four years.

This will ensure it has the resources required to continue regulating NDIS providers and improving the quality and safety of supports received by participants.'

Brighter Access chief executive officer Tanya Fox welcomed the Federal Government's ongoing NDIS funding guarantee.

"The additional funding for the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission will assist with ensuring the overseeing of supports for people with disability within the scheme."

As a not-for-profit disability service provider, Brighter Access supports participants across the New England, including in Inverell, Armidale and Tamworth.

Employing more than 300 staff, who all play a vital role in supporting people with disability and their family, recruitment is important.

"The incentives being provided by the government for employment will help boost the workforce needed to support participants in the scheme as well," Mrs Fox said.

The government will also implement the most substantial package of reforms to the NDIS since its establishment and deliver significant improvements to the scheme.

Minister for the NDIS Stuart Robert said the announced reform package was influenced by the government's response to the 2019 Independent Review of the NDIS Act and the new NDIS Participant Service Guarantee.

The reforms have been created to help deliver on the promise of the NDIS, which is to provide people with a permanent and significant disability true choice and control over a flexible support package to achieve their goals.
