A DULL weekend brought patchy rain to the Tamworth region, but it wasn't enough to boost Chaffey Dam past the trigger point for water restrictions to ease.

Water Minister Melinda Pavey suggested last week the dam could rise up to 27 per cent capacity, and locals were holding out hope.
At midday on Monday, Chaffey Dam was sitting at 24.6 per cent full, according to WaterNSW data.

Tamworth Regional Council's drought management plan indicates Tamworth, Moonbi and Kootingal are set to drop back from Level 5 to Level 4 restrictions when the water supply hits a quarter full.
The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) gauge at Tamworth airport recorded 7.8mm of rain between Friday and Monday.
Rainfall at the head of the Peel River totalled 22.8mm, according to the BoM weather station.
However, Tamworth residents copped varying amounts during scattered downpours.
One East Tamworth resident recorded 11mm for the weekend, while one Longyard resident clocked 14mm on Sunday night alone.
The BoM forecast for Tamworth shows showers are possible later in the week, and temperatures are expected to take a dive and possibly bring snowfalls to higher lying areas.
Gunnedah and Armidale also got a bit wet during the rainy couple of days.
