Star Club Moonbi had its first riding day in late July after the local club officially became its own branch.

One of the club's riding coaches Joey Dernee-Mannion said the organisation is designed to help make sure horse riders aren't held back by anything.

"We're delighted to have this group at this place here, we feel so privileged," she said.

"All of Tamworth has upped their game in the equestrian scene, the dressage, the eventing and all Western sports, we really are a very high profile equestrian area and we wanted to get the disability section up a peg or three as well."

The Moonbi branch is only the second in Australia after it separated from the Lake Macquarie club, which was first established in February 2019.

Ms Dernee-Mannion said Star Club Moonbi has already seen some "terrific results". She coaches alongside Francisco Campeo.

"It's not called Star Club for no reason, everyone here is a star ... their goals can be as high as they want," she said.

About a dozen riders ranging in age from 11 years old have weekly supervised sessions at the property outside Tamworth.

They also attend monthly rally days where they might learn new dressage tests, horse care, or have lectures.

Star Club is affiliated with Equestrian NSW and local riders who live with an intellectual condition - anything from autism to an acquired brain injury - can join in.

"It's just wonderful to watch these kids ride independently," Ms Dernee-Mannion said.

The organisation has been operating in Moonbi for the past year or so under membership to the coastal club, but it just became it's own separate Star Club branch in July.

This means the club can hit the ground galloping and continue to grow, raise their own funds and apply for grants.
