Tamworth Regional Council (TRC) voted unanimously on Tuesday to spend $1000 each month to continue inspections as the rate of people taking up water saving rebates soars.
The demand for inspections has exceeded the council's expectations and since March 2019, at least 1420 checks have been completed.
Residents in Tamworth, Moonbi and Kootingal have lived with level five water restrictions for more than nine months, which bans outdoor watering with the scant town water supply.
The inspections are available to any person or business with an existing standalone rainwater tank, onsite bore water or greywater treatment or reuse systems.
It's also open to anyone who wants to access water saving rebate schemes for standalone tanks.
