Bede Mumbulla failed to show cause for his release in an out-of-sessions bail hearing in Tamworth Local Court on Friday morning.
The 26-year-old was arrested in Westow Crescent in Oxley Vale on Thursday afternoon and is accused of the violent knifing of a man the day before.
Detectives allege Mumbulla stormed the Robert Street home and demanded money from the 56-year-old man inside.
The confrontation turned violent, and Mumbulla is alleged to have stabbed him twice in the neck and then fled the scene.

Mumbulla is facing a charge of aggravated assault with intent to rob with wounding but was not required to enter a plea.
Mumbulla lodged a released application in court on Friday but could not show cause for his release and his bid for bail was denied.
He was ordered to remain behind bars until the case returns to court next week.
Police said the 56-year-old underwent surgery and is in a stable condition in John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle with non life-threatening injuries.
Meanwhile, a man has been taken to hospital after being stabbed in the leg in mysterious circumstances in Armidale.
Police said the injured 26-year-old went to the Caltex Service Station on Queen Elizabeth Drive in Girraween about 6am on Friday to raise the alarm.
Detective Inspector Ann Joy said the victim told police he'd been attacked on the bike track.
"Police were told the offence occurred on the bike track, and we have examined that area and have not identified any crime scene," Detective Inspector Ann Joy said.
"Officers have located a secondary scene near the Caltex Service Station which is being forensically examined."
The victim was taken to hospital with a small wound to the thigh, and was treated and released.
"We believe it is not a random attack, so there is no cause for community alarm," Detective Joy said.
