Barraba Pony Club 'living legend' gets the national nod

The 92-year-old has been volunteering with the organisation for more than half a century.

Zone Five chief instructor Jude Alston nominated Ms Stobie for the award and said she was in awe of her service.

"She's been there forever and involved with the club right from the get go," Ms Alston said.

There isn't much that goes on at the Barraba club that Ms Stobie hasn't been a part of.

"She's worn many different hats - instructional, judging and organising," Ms Alston said.

"Over the years she's done a lot of certificate work with the children. Anyone who's come through the club knows who 'Miss Stobie' is.

"In fact, this is the first time she's let her three-year term instructor certificate lapse. She'd had it all the way though up until this year."

While she's not teaching as much these days, she's still a very prominent figure in pony club fixtures.

"She'll still go down there and the kids will have a chat to her, she's been a mentor to quite a few of them," Ms Alston said.

"She is very passionate and very well respected."

The Living Legend Award is an initiative launched by Pony Club Australia in celebration of its 80^th anniversary.

The organisation wanted to recognise anyone 80 or older who have been - or sit are - significantly involved with their local Pony Club.

In total, five Living Legend awards were presented in Zone Five.
