POLICE have charged two men with a spate of guns charges after stopping a car on the Newell highway on Saturday night.

The two 24-year-old men from Baradine faced court in Moree on Sunday morning after highway patrol cops found five guns, drugs and cash when their vehicle was stopped in south of Narrabri.

Officers stopped the vehicle at 6.30 on Saturday evening and when the police searched the car they searched the vehicle, they found two rifles - one reported stolen from a property at Burren Junction in January this year - as well as two shot guns, including a sawn-off, and a handgun.
Police also seized ammunition, cannabis and more than $4500 cash, jewellery, and a key to a quad bike reported stolen from Baradine in February this year.
The men, both aged 24 and from Baradine, were arrested and taken to Narrabri Police Station.
The driver has now been charged with 14 offences, including:
- Possess unregistered firearms, one a prohibited/pistol
- Possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority
- Possess unregistered firearm - not prohibited firearm/pistol (two counts)
- Possess shortened firearm (not pistol) without authority (three counts)
- Possess prohibited drug (two counts)
- Knowingly deal with proceeds of crime
- Goods in custody suspected being stolen (two counts)
- Possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit (two counts).
The passenger has been charged with five offences:
- Possess unregistered firearms (one a prohibited/pistol)
- Possess shortened firearm (not pistol) without authority (three counts)
- Possess unregistered firearm.
Both men were refused bail and were due to appear in Moree Local Court today.
