Liverpool Range Fire Control Centre operational officer Mark Denton said the centre had received about 200 notifications for permit burns over the month of April alone.
"It is very pleasing to see that the local communities are engaging with their volunteer rural fire service brigade and are actively seeking out permits to ensure they are complying with the laws and getting advice for burning safely," Mr Denton said.
Mr Denton said that although permits are no longer required after midnight on Tuesday, April 30, local communities "are still legally required to advise their neighbours and the NSW Rural Fire Service at least 24hrs prior to lighting any fires".
This can be done by contacting the reporting centre on 1300 611 400.
