Minister for Better Regulation Matt Kean said escaping to a rural property was a great way to enjoy the break, but farmers must ensure safety measures were in place.
“These properties are also a workplace, and there are lots of potential hazards that visitors must be aware of.”

Mr Kean gave these tips:
- Set clear rules and tell visitors about any risks;
- Watch children, especially around farm machinery;
- Keep workshops locked;
- Supervise access to hazards such as dams, tanks, rivers, silos, stockyards and chemical stores; and,
- Keep inexperienced riders away from quad bikes.
Mr Kean said quad bikes were one of the biggest dangers and killers on NSW farms, and owners should not bow to pressure for a joyride.
“I urge you to stay strong and say ‘no’.
“Don’t ever let children operate or be carried as passengers on quad bikes, and if any adult needs to ride one, make sure they always wear a helmet and are trained to operate the bike.”
