THIEVES have stolen a large sum of cash after an aggravated break-in at a local bowling club.

The Robbery and Serious Crime Unit have been called in to help Oxley detectives investigate the targeted hit on the Wee Waa Bowling Club, in the early hours of Thursday.

The offenders struck the club off Alma Street just after 4am, sounding an alarm.

“The front doors to the premises were jemmied open to gain entry,” Oxley Inspector Kylie Endemi told The Leader.

“The offenders have then stolen an ATM, they chained the ATM to a utility and dragged it away.”

The ATM contained a significant sum of cash.

Inspector Endemi said a witness sounded the alarm and police were notified, and set-up a crime scene which has been combed for clues.

Now investigators are hunting the two men behind the heist, after the ATM was “dragged for some distance” out of the club, behind the ute.

The men, police said, had their faces hidden, but were seen fleeing in a white single-cab ute.

“The Robbery and Serious Crime Unit have been advised and are liaising with detectives,” Inspector Endemi said.

“Police would be appealing for any members of the public who might have seen anything suspicious or who might have seen the single-cab white utility to come forward and contact Oxley police or Crime Stoppers.”
