The school presented the Rodgers and Hammerstein’s classic musical, Cinderella, with a matinee for primary schools on Wednesday and for the general public on Thursday evening at Quirindi’s Royal Theatre.
The final performance of the classical musical will be held tomorrow night, Friday, July 21, at 7.30pm.
The good old-fashioned Broadway style musical offers enchantment, glamorous dresses, dances, entertainment and songs galore.
“We chose a musical that is accessible for people of all ages to come along and enjoy,” enthused QHS Drama teacher Leanne Cooper.
“The themes of Cinderella embrace all members of the community and the matinee will see members from local primary schools attend.”
With music by Richard Rodgers, book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, the musical was adapted for the stage by Tom Briggs from the Teleplay by Robert.L.Freedman.
“Twenty talented students from Quirindi High School are getting excited as the matinee and performance dates draw closer,” Ms Cooper said.
“Students put in a lot of effort and time into the musical, with rehearsals done in their own time after school.”
While the costumes are glamorous medieval and the musical itself is an enchanted edition, there are jokes and modern themes a plenty.
“Let’s just say, Cinderella is not the shy retiring type… in this version she’s an independent woman who knows what she wants,” she said.
Talented local singer, Lucy Crane is cast as Cinderella and the cast also includes the talent of: Ben Hope as Prince Charming, Abbey Lobsey as the Wicked Step-mother, Courtney Burgess and Hanna Davis as the Ugly Step-sisters and Indiah Nean as the Fairy Godmother.
“There are fifteen cast members from years 7 to year 12 and 6 students undertaking the technical aspects, including lights, stage manager and tech radio mikes and soundtrack.”
The musical is a delight for the public and an opportunity for Quirindi High School students to gain performance experience as it’s a full-scale production, with lighting and costumes as close to professional as possible.
