Pot-A-Way owner Sue Budden said the way to keep plants alive was with plenty of water.
“Water early in the morning in the cool of the day and, if you can, mulch plants with lucerne hay,” she said.
“Add water-storage crystals to the soil, because they hold the moisture and are good for pots.”
Ms Budden said it was a good idea to plant more trees in your yard, to provide more shade, particularly on hot days, and to always wear a hat and sunscreen when watering or gardening.
“Make sure you get good information when you buy your plants, so you plant them in the right spot,” she said.
