In what will be their only Doug Walters game for the first half of the season - this weekend's clash with Coffs Harbour has been postponed until 2022 - the Magpies scored a thumping win.
The toss proved crucial, captain Steve Wilson said, as Tamworth won by 136 runs.
"We were lucky enough to win the toss on a really good batting wicket," Wilson said.
Eight of Tamworth's batsmen passed 10 runs as the Magpies post 7-235.
Peter Mead (53 not out) led the way followed by Phil Constable (45 retired) and Ben Crowe (41 retired).
"Chris Paterson (18) and Anthony Dutton (13) got off to a good start and then Peter Mead, Ben Crowe and Phil Constable built on that," Wilson said.
"Meady batted really well. He hit a lot of boundaries in his innings, retired at 40 and then went back in at the end to finish off the innings."
The bowlers then backed up the batting effort by skittling the Mudskippers for 99.
Mead (2-5) and Constable (2-25) proved just as influential with the ball while Dean Petty (2-5) also snagged two wickets. However, it was Brett Follington (3-16) who was on top for the bowlers while the team's fielding effort matched that of the batters and bowlers.
"We fielded pretty well, took good catches so that helped with the good performances," Wilson said.
