Hazlewood flew home to Sydney on Sunday before being officially ruled out of this week's day-night Test in Adelaide on Monday morning.
The Bendemeer native will now start rehabilitation with a call to be made on his fitness ahead of the Boxing Day Test.
Hazlewood didn't bowl on the third afternoon at the Gabba and was sent for a scan on Friday night which showed he was at least fit enough to bowl on Saturday.
The right-armer got through six overs on day four and took the wicket of Jos Buttler for 23 as the hosts cruised to victory inside four days.
Losing Hazlewood is a significant blow ahead of the day-night fixture in Adelaide as he boasts an impressive pink-ball record of 32 wickets at 19.90. In the first Test against India at Adelaide Oval last year, the Australian quick took 5-8 as the tourists were routed for 36 in the second innings - their lowest ever Test total and the seventh worst in Test history.
