A 28-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, fronted Tamworth Local Court on Tuesday for the first time after he was arrested the evening before, and spent the night behind bars.

Magistrate Julie Soars refused the man bail and adjourned the matter for two months.

Police will work on compiling a brief of evidence in the armed robbery case before the accused returns to court in November via video link.

The older man, as well as a 15-year-old boy who cannot be named, are each facing one charge of armed robbery in company after an alleged incident on Monday evening.

Police claim a 26-year-old man was driving his Ford Falcon along a road in West Tamworth when a man who was unknown to him waved him down.

The man threatened the driver with a pair of scissors when he pulled over, police allege.

The 26-year-old man was then taken to a nearby home on the same street before he was further threatened and also had his mobile phone stolen, according to local police.

The man managed to escape from the home and flee a short time later.

He alerted Oxley officers about 6:30pm, who launched an investigation.

Inquiries led police to the West Tamworth house later that evening, where the man and teenage boy were both arrested.

The teenager was granted conditional bail by police and will appear before the children's court in Tamworth next month.

Both the 28-year-old man and the 15-year-old boy have also had an additional charge levelled against them of not complying with a COVID-19 direction amid the pandemic.
