Cody Morgan is excited about the Tamworth Jockey Club's future, but has bemoaned the present as a wet winter and a substandard training infrastructure has made for tough going for local trainers.

When Morgan's Addison Reserve won the race three maiden at a soggy Tamworth on Friday, he became the sole local winner from the last two Tamworth meetings (16 races all up).
The completion of the $1.5 million reconstruction of the sand training track, slated for September, can't come soon enough, according to Tamworth's leading trainer.

Morgan said: "I've been here a long time. I'm 35, and I've been riding on the track since I was 15.
"It's pretty easy to suggest that the last couple of years, they were the worst there's ever been. That's not speaking out of school; it's just from a personal point of view.
"But they're heading in the right direction now. It just gives you confidence to keep getting more horses in work."
This year Racing NSW has overseen major changes at the jockey club, including a new board pending, and a new general manager in place, as well as partly funding the new training track.
This month it was announced that the TJC would receive $2.4 million in state government funding in order to improve its training infrastructure and stables.
In six month, Morgan said the TJC would be in "a terrific position".

However, Morgan said that at present it was difficult for Tamworth trainers to compete against rivals who prepared "their horses on really good tracks".
