Goonoo Goonoo Road has been cordoned off and shut down, and police are combing multiple crime scenes after the confrontation in the early hours of Saturday.
The Leader can reveal one man has been stabbed, believed to be multiple times.
The 36-year-old was found with stab wounds to the torso at the Coles service station about 3.45am
He was rushed to Tamworth hospital with serious injuries, where he was being treated by doctors.

Oxley police have confirmed one man - aged 26 - has been arrested and is in custody at Tamworth Police Station assisting detectives with their inquiries.
The Leader has been told the pair are known to one another and it's not being treated as a random attack.
Detectives are speaking with multiple witnesses but are calling for anyone that might have seen the confrontation or the injured man in the early hours of Saturday morning to come forward.
Motorists are being urged to avoid Goonoo Goonoo Road - one of Tamworth's busiest thoroughfares - while the police operation continues.
Police said the operation is expected to last several hours with traffic controllers directing motorists through side streets.
No charges have been laid and investigations are continuing.
