Tamworth Regional Council plans progress for COVID-safe Australia Day concert and fireworks show in Bicentennial Park

Events manager Barry Harley told the Leader locals have been "snapping up" the limited number of spots available to see the show on January 26, since tickets went live last week.

"Already about 1500 tickets have been taken up," he said.

"That 3000 number is the maximum capacity, so we might pull up a little shorter to guarantee and further ensure safety."

Mr Harley said Bicentennial Park will be fenced off, so only people who have registered to go and given their details can get in the gates.

The concert is set to mark the return of live entertainment to Bicentennial Park on Kable Avenue, after the Tamworth Country Music Festival 2021 was officially cancelled last year amid the coronavirus pandemic.

"We've confirmed the Bushwackers and support act the Cover Bandits, which is a local band," Mr Harley said.

"We're still looking at a fireworks display about the 9pm mark at the end of the evening."

He also announced Aboriginal elder Len Waters would do a smoking ceremony to open the show on Gomeroi land.

People coming along should bring their own picnic blankets and chairs to enjoy the night, which will fire off about 6pm on January 26.

All individuals - children included - must book tickets on the Destination Tamworth website.
