All indications are that we're starting to see our region's economy turn around after the negative impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. This initiative - driven by local businessman Chris Watson and supported by council and the Tamworth Business Chamber - is just what we need to help revive the region.
It's a great way of supporting our local small businesses which are so important to our region's economy. Gift cards are available at Chris Watson Travel in Peel Street, Tamworth or at Tamworth Business Chamber in Fitzroy Street, Tamworth, or online at https://www.stayregionalshopregional.com.
Cards are accepted at participating businesses across the Tamworth region. The list of businesses which are part of Stay Regional, Shop Regional is available on the website and is updated each day as it grows.

In other good news, congratulations to local venues taking the opportunity to breathe life back into our local live music scene.
Now COVID-19 public health orders have eased, it's so positive to start to hear live music at venues. It's one of the experiences we have all been wanting to get back to.
While there is no Tamworth Country Music Festival in January, please take a look at the performances local venues do have on offer now and going forward into the new year.
You are sure to find some live music you want to hear and enjoy during summer.

As 2020 is drawing to a close, I am sure many of us are reflecting on what has been a very challenging year on many fronts due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While it is not over yet, we are close to a vaccine becoming available and the economic outlook is improving.
I am proud of how council and its staff have been able to rally and help make a difference to those businesses and residents hurting from the financial fallout of the pandemic.
First, we launched the Tamworth Region Trading Directory and then our COVID-19 Support Package to give practical help to residents and businesses.
Now we continue to work on our Revive the Region plan which aims to stimulate the local economy. We are taking full advantage of funding programs from the NSW Government and Australian Government to deliver a range of much-needed infrastructure projects for our community.
While we gain improved roads, new footpaths, cycleways, park improvements, public amenities and more the funding also provides a boost to our region's economy - and that is something which benefits us all.
On behalf of my fellow councillors, I would like to wish you all a safe and a very happy Christmas and a much more peaceful and calm 2021.
