Two offenders used a stolen ute to ram the front of Vince Strang Motorcycles in Inverell about 2am on Monday, making off with tens of thousands of dollars worth of bikes.
The owner believes the pair targeted the Byron Street store and knew what they wanted before they struck.
New England Detective Inspector Roger Best told the Leader the offenders hit the shop between 1.40am and 2.05am using a stolen 2017 silver Isuzu D-MAX utility.

"The vehicle was previously reported stolen from Queensland and was also involved in a fail-to-pay at Caltex service station in Inverell," he said.
"Police are currently conducting inquiries into two males believed to be involved in this offence.
"We are examining a number of lines of inquiry, and conducting forensic analysis of several exhibits seized at the scene."
The ute rammed the front doors before the suspects ran in and stole a 2019 model Beta RR300 trail bike; a 2019 model SX350 KTM motocross bike; and a 2021 model Kawasaki KX450. The bikes together are worth about $31,000, proprietor Vince Strang said.
"They'd obviously been casing the place so they knew where the motorcycles were, and they knew which ones they wanted," he said.
"They didn't just randomly grab bikes; they specifically picked up off-road, competition-type motorcycles which are probably a bit harder to trace because they are not registerable normally.
"So they bashed a hole in the door, threw the three bikes on the ramp and then left. Security video got them leaving with the three bikes on."
Added to the theft was the $20,000 damage to the front of his shop.
"They smashed the front door to bits," Mr Strang said.
"As well as the damage to the big sliding door, on each side of it they've torn the door jams out."
Investigations are continuing and police are following a number of leads, Detective Best said.
"We would appeal for anyone who knows the whereabouts of this vehicle of interest, or the location of the motorbikes, to please come forward," Detective Best said.
"Also, if anyone saw anyone acting suspiciously in the Byron Street area, near the premises, on the night or the days prior, police would appeal for them to contact us. Any information could be crucial to this investigation."
The business has been operating in Inverell for nearly 45 years, and from its current location for 38 years. The last time the showroom was broken into was about 25 years ago.
"We trust Inverell, it's a pretty good place, and I feel these people aren't Inverell people, although they may have some local connections," Mr Strang said.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Inverell police on 6722 0599.
