Wedged in the middle of the CBD is the Fitzroy Street Plaza, which has been given a facelift in excess of $4.5 million with irrigation systems and living umbrellas and mist systems still to come.
The next phase of renovations will only be completed if and when water restrictions ease.
Tamworth Regional Council's (TRC) recent cuts to red tape on time-consuming development applications for public events makes it easier than ever to put on a temporary event.
Fitzroy Plaza is free to book, and TRC coordinator of events and operations Michaela Stevens encourages more community groups to book a pop-up event in the space.
"I think to be honest the space has changed a little from the first vision, initially there was a dual approach to the space as a gathering spot to have lunch," she said.
"I think as the street furniture has gone in there's less physical space so it's not as easy to have larger events, but it's much more appealing because of the furniture.
"It's more attractive for smaller events and pop-up style activities, so it has grown into something more intimate with the softening features."
The space is regularly used for council-run events like Tamworth Country Music Festival and cultural extravaganza Fiesta La Peel.
For larger events the road can be closed, but that could incur an additional fee for bookings from the public.

A number of businesses have made use of the space, including Tim Tam for Tim Tamworth, the Australian Royal Mint, Ballet Stars with performances and Northern Inland Football with the soccer World Cup live on the big screen.
There's little impost on the council to host an event in the space, Ms Stevens said.
"We would love the space to be used more," she said.
"Initially when it was finished we encouraged people to use it but there hasn't been a lot since, so it's good to raise awareness that it's a simple process to use it and there's no fees involved unless there's a major road closure."
