A property owner near Inverell has made a gruesome discovery after finding two dead goats that were killed by illegal bow hunters.

The remains were found off Paterson's Road, west of Emmaville, and the landholder quickly alerted police.
The farmer found the goat carcasses on August 15 and upon closer inspection noticed they had been butchered. The nock end of an arrow was located close to the goats.
Inverell's Rural Crime Prevention Team have taken charge of the investigation.

Investigators have confirmed the landholder does not allow persons to bow hunt on his property at all.
"The carcass was fresh as can be seen in the photos so has only happened a short time earlier than it was discovered," investigators revealed.
Police have issued a public appeal for help for anyone in the area last weekend.
Investigators would like to speak with anyone who may seen suspicious activity in or around the Strathbogie Road or Paterson's Road areas at Emmaville.
